Total Articles: 8
Sandblasting is a process of propelling a mixture of sand and water to any abrasive surface. There are different purposes for which this process is followed like for cleaning the surface by removing the rust, paint etc. or to etch the surface or to paint or polish the surface. It is called as Sand blasting because during the early days, sand was the primary component which is mixed with other materials and then is projected on the surface. The projection is done with some initial pressure which is responsible for creating abrasions on the surface. Apart from sand, now days there are other types of materials that are being used as per the nature of the surface like small steel balls, glass pieces etc. The reason why sand is now less preferred by some countries is that the degree of abrasion by sand is quite high due to which some materials get deteriorated.
The most common process which uses sandblasting is cleaning or galvanizing of metal or for removal of rusts from the surface. The amazing part of this process is that it is used in creating striking designs by spraying glass pieces commonly called as glass etching. At first the surface is coated with some glue in the required pattern and then glass is etched on the surface because of which the projected glass sticks to the surface forming the required pattern.
Sandblasting is solution to lots of household problems and most of the people prefer this process to get rid of their problems, but have you ever gone through the bad effects of the process. Yes, this process has a lot of bad effects and is responsible for a lot of health hazards. People living close to the sand blasting industry suffer lung and other air borne diseases. It is because of the propellants that are being used on the surface. Since, these materials are projected at very high speed so they get mixed with the air and when inhaled causes severe diseases.
Apart from the air borne diseases, when the materials are used for paint removal, then they can have adverse effects on naked skin. Unless you are a professional sandblaster, you should not perform the operation without expert considerations. The reason is that if you are carrying out this operation without any expert nearby, then the propellants that are used to project has the possibility of getting penetrated into the skin. The most venerable parts of the body like eyes, ears etc. can get affected. So, you have to cover up your body while doing it.
The best way to achieve professional standards of sand blasting and paint removal is by hiring an expert. An expert knows the proper method to do it like it is done in open air and not in closed room, covering the body parts, handling the nozzle of the blaster etc. If professional standards are not maintained then it might results in different types of hazards. So, if you are looking forward to hire professional sand blasting firms, then internet will be the best medium.
