Many people who would like to get away on vacation but are reluctant to do so because of the cost are not aware of the countless cheap travel options out there, including cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, cheap auto rentals, discount travel deals, cheap deals, and cheap vacation packages.

The following are great summer budget vacation recommendations that will appeal to lovers of beaches, national parks, mountains, and big cities from Budget Travel:

• Yellowstone National Park can be accessed from Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming and offers the closest things to a safari experience in the lower 48 states. Yellowstone is home not only to the Old Faithful geyser but also to 1,000 miles of hiking trails, 67 species of mammals (including bears, moose, and wolves), and ranger programs including walks, hikes, and campfire programs.

• Myrtle Beach in South Carolina offers miles of sand, a wildly popular boardwalk, charter fishing expeditions, and Ripley’s Aquarium, as well as world class southern style eateries with local micro-brews, seafood buffets, and oceanfront tables.

• Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee is where you will find the country’s most popular national park, a major theme park, and miles of trails and streams. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is great for fishing, hiking, and scenic drives such as the six mile Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Another popular hot spot is the 150 acre Dollywood that offers authentic Tennessee music, food, and thrill rides including the Wild Eagle and Mystery Mine.

• Chicago, Illinois is famous for its second to none theater, improve comedy such as Second City, its magnificent Art Institute museum, blues venues such as House of Blues, and its rollicking Navy Pier along Lake Michigan. Sandy beaches along the lake as well as multiple sports teams appeal to those with a less “arty” inclination.

• Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky attracts natural history buffs, particularly those who enjoy an air of mystery. This is home to the world’s longest cave system. Its limestone caverns can be navigated with the help of park rangers. Programs vary from the tried and true, one of-a-kind major paths, perfect for all ages and interest levels, to muddier, darker options that the more adventurous will revel in.

• Morro Bay California is on the central coast not far from the sprawling Hearst Castle. There you will find a world class natural history museum, iconic Morro Rock, a beautiful harbor, and the world’s largest ocean just down the street.

• Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts is where you can partake in both great museums and take relaxing mountain hikes. One of the country’s biggest collections of modern art can be found at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams. You can see a very comprehensive collection at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown.

Cross the border into Bennington, Vermont, to step back into 19th century New England and check out the Grandma Moses collection at the Bennington Museum and Grandma Moses Schoolhouse.

• Mackinac Island in Michigan is regarded as one of the best places to take a family vacation. Michigan’s lakeshore remains largely unknown by people not living close by. Mackinaw City is a half hour ferry ride from Mackinac Island’s Victorian homes and a stunning state park.

• Acadia National Park in Maine appeals to lovers of mountains, the ocean, and pine scented air. This popular destination is still a possibility for this summer if you are willing to reserve lodgings a short drive away. Acadia is best for travelers who like their seaside a little rough around the edges, with cliffs, trails, and amazingly empty beaches.

• Orlando Florida is THE theme park paradise. Summer is when you can take advantage of some very attractive discounts on hotel rates. Although it is certainly hot there during the summer, $75 room rates help offset some of the sting of park admission, which can exceed $90 a day per adult.
