“Kutch” also called as Kachchhi embroidery, Kutchi Bharat and Sindhi stitch, literally means something which sporadically becomes wet and dry.

Kutch works have their roots in Kutch, which is a city of Gujarat. Kutch and Bhuj regions of Gujarat majorly produce these products. It is said that, Gujarat’s handicraft traditions have existed since centuries. Especially, Kutch works have a richest history long back to the centuries.

History of Kutch work traces back to the Vedic period. A group of ramblers, associated with Karna of Mahabharata, used to work for these royal textiles. Later, distinctive styles of Kutch works were created by the region over years.

An interesting fact about this stitch is, we never know and feel the beauty of work until the result comes out. The output will be a surprise even to the craftsmen.

This stunning art involves in such hard core steps to produce beautiful and exquisite designs.

This technique is basically of geometric in form. Here, frame work and interlacing is the perfect combination for the best results.

For that, weavers make stitches based on frame works. There are two types of foundation frame works such as Herringbone stitch and Cretan stitch. Finally, with interlacing techniques, this frame work will be completely filled.

Kutch embroidery is bright, bold and colourful. It is usually done on fabrics like silk, wool, cotton and others. Indigo, black, deep red, yellow and ivory are the major colours used by the weavers.

To create elaborated patterns, major motifs involved in this work are human figures, temples, hurmitch, and Persian and Mughal arts. Along with them, basic motifs such as floral designs, panels, geometric images, and animal and fruit designs are also involved. Embroidery of this work uses mirrors, beads, stones, butis and etc.

Designer Kutch work sarees with heavy embroidery works are best suitable for weddings and bridal ceremonies. Kutch cotton sarees with floral designs are perfect for working women during summer seasons. Kutch silk sarees with designer works and bead works are apt for functions, festivals and other grand occasions.
