The Time-insensitive Cpd Program
Total Articles: 75
If you are currently working as a dental practitioner in a successful clinic, you understand the value of time. You understand that patients may come in and out of the dental clinic, be in and out of the dental operatory even before you can think of going across the street to buy lunch. For those who work in a single practice set up, you may be familiar with the worry of missing potential patients just because you were out. There is always that chance that if the patient is not accommodated then the patient will seek another dentist or cease to seek dental treatment. Then, you lose the potential business and the patient loses the chance to receive proper oral health care. This reason alone – that of not wanting to be away from the clinic for extended periods – may cause dental practitioners to be negligent of fulfilling their continuing education requirements.
For many years now, dental graduates have been encouraged to maintain their standard of knowledge by participating in further studies. It is however only a percent of the dental graduate population that enrolls in further university studies or courses for specializations. More recently, dental practitioners – not just dentists but also dental hygienists, dental technicians and dental prosthetists – have been required by law to complete a minimum number of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours or units to be able to renew their license and keep on practicing dentistry. This then poses as a slight problem for practitioners who do not wish to enroll or do not have the capacity to enroll in university programs and for practitioners who do not have the luxury of time to be away from their clinics in order to attend dental seminars or workshops.
Here is where the ingenuity of online dental CPD programs enters. Many dental groups or organizations have sought to make things easier for members of the practice. The internet, being an easy method for communication and information distribution, was accepted as a valuable and convenient mode for offering further education. Many professional fields, including the dental profession, have started using the internet to provide their members credible ways of staying updated with information, news and issues relevant to their field. The busy, hard working practitioner may now just spend minimum number of minutes or hours of their day or week towards fulfilling their CPD requirements without it needing to interfere with other important things a person must do. The amount of time spent on the online education is in the hands of the person, depending on how much the person wishes to allot for it.
You, as a dental practitioner who is probably spending hours and hours in the clinic may find many benefits in enrolling in an online dental CPD program. The convenience of having the education material accessible at your fingertips at the time most convenient for you is one of the primary advantages of this type of program. It can be described as a time-insensitive continuing education method because you, the learner, determines when to participate in it, how much of your time to spend on learning a topic and even how long you will take in acquiring the required number of CPD hours or units. There is no rush due to time limitations that one can be faced with, especially when worrying about it interfering with work and other life concerns.
