Draw Attention To The Entire House With Your Landscape Lighting

By Expert Author: Maynard Brede

If you do not have the right lighting outside your home, it can seem dull but with the right lighting, it can look dazzling. It is very important know the best kind of lights for your house and garden. With ideal lighting, you can have a nice evening walk through your gorgeous garden. Although it may possibly seem out of reach, proper outdoor lighting could be found in your home.

Over the winter months as the days get shorter it can be a good idea to have the right outdoor lighting for security reasons. The lighting effects can modify the living space outside your house, so that with the right planning you might even entertain guests. There are four distinct types of outdoor lighting to consider. Security lighting will be the first and needs to only be used for areas that can predisposed to break-ins. These kinds of lights are normally activated by motion sensors and may be very bright. The other type or classification is task lighting which can be used for paths and stairs as well as for areas for grilling. Task lights must be bright enough to light an area and should focus on the area that needs to be lit. Sometimes when it is too bright, it may make it harder to see.

Accent lighting is used to spotlight a specific element of a given area for effect. One common example may be a light focused upward on a statue. These types of lights can create a silhouette result which can be quite soothing. A different variety is moonlighting or star lighting which produces a moonlight or starlight effect. To generate the effect of moonlight, you will need to position lights in some trees and point them in a downward direction. To create the semblance of stars, you set lights in tree branches and add some flickering candles. The look and feel of nature is great to enjoy in your own personal garden.

You must be sure you do not overdo the lighting no matter what you have set up. As it pertains to lighting quite often, less is more. When lights are not necessary, avoid using them and it is fine to use low-wattage bulbs. The one thing to be mindful about is to never transmit the light upward. A typical error would be to have a runway effect by having the lights going in a straight line up and down paths. Never work with yellow lights since many people do not like the look of things in yellow light. A better choice is going to be blue-white bulbs or use daylight-blue filters for your fixtures.

Keep the lights in places where they are easily accessible, because you are going to need to change them sometimes. The moment your lighting fixtures are set up for the exterior, you can enjoy your time outdoors after dark.
