The biggest and rising concern of people around the world is escalating energy costs and the constant fear of the depletion of energy resources. But fearing and worrying won’t solve the issue. The problem at hand can only be overcome if everyone is willing to do their share to keep the resources from becoming extinct which is then going to have a positive effect on the costs of home utility bills.
What You Can Do?
So, if you, too, are tensed up about the increasing energy bills of your home, then follow these valuable tips to reduce the energy costs and consumption. If every home owner starts making these energy-efficient choices, then together it will have a great positive impact on global warming and pollution levels of the world. What’s more is that, you wouldn’t have to give up your comforts entirely either.
 Lower the Thermostat
In colder regions, where you need to keep the house and water heated all the time, a lot of energy is consumed by setting the thermostat on too high so that both the rooms and the water gets heated right away. However, lowering the thermostat by only 1 degree ...
... could mean lessening your energy usage by over 5%.

 Turn off Everything When Not in Use
If you are stepping out of the home, then there is no need to keep your home warm or cool while you are not there. Unless you want the utility bills to shoot off the roof top, either turn down everything to lowest setting or turn them off completely.

 Unplug Everything Too
If you have charged up your laptop, mobile phones, tablets and other gadgets, then there is really no use of leaving everything plugged. Beware that electricity is constantly being used when the chargers are plugged.

 Don’t Keep Electronic Items on Standby
Switching off the television and the AC amongst other things is a convenient process. However, it leaves the electronic items on standby and therefore electricity is continuously used. Leaving appliances on standby means running a 75 – 100 watt bulb constantly; imagine that!

 Why Rely on Appliances?
Nature has provided us with adequate natural heating and cooling means. Use the sunlight and wind to your benefit. If you live in colder areas, then try to warm your home naturally by letting sunlight rinse your room. Open the curtains wide so that most of the sunlight can come in.

Similarly daylight can also be used to brighten up rooms when you are working. Living in coastal areas gives people the advantage of utilizing a lot of wind. You can enjoy the natural breeze instead of keeping the fans and conditioners turned on.

 Compare and Get Better Energy Rates
You must compare the rates of energy supply from different providers or if you have a single provider, you must check with them if they have discount rates for using appliances during special times of the day. For example, some providers offer better rates if the dish washers, washing machines and driers are used in the night.
