Karate is now one of the most well known forms of martial arts in the world. This is most likely because it possesses all the elements that you would want in a martial art. In Karate, you will be able to engage in competitions around the world or you can learn it to help you keep fit in both mind and body or you can use the skills to help you protect yourself and your family. Karate means "empty hand" in Japanese and everyone from all age groups can learn kicks, punches and strikes in this all round system. In reality it is a very good martial art for all the family to become involved in. In case you are new to this and you're curious about what you might expect from a Karate class we're going to look at some of the basics in this article.
Karate comes with quite a few different forms and some are based on power whereas other styles rely more on quickness. Many Karate classes get started with warm ups that include stretches and exercises. Those warm ups help improve our flexibility so that we can perform our kicks and moves without injuring ourselves. To able to perform the techniques you learn Karate, you have to be in good physical condition so the warm ups are very important. You'll find that after taking a couple of Karate class sessions, you will be feeling stronger and more focused than ever.
Once your warm up is complete, you will then begin working on specific Karate techniques. Every movement, every stance and every feet placement is essential to your success in Karate so you will be doing many repetitions of a specific move until it is done correctly. Of course, the teacher will demonstrate the move to you then you do it yourself. The idea behind repetition is that the moves come to be second nature and you begin to channel the power into certain strikes by the way you move your hips and body in general.
In Karate, there exists a term known as "kata" which is a sequence involving a series of kicks, blocks and strikes. You'll see "kata" at any Karate event and you will learn how to do this as you slowly move up the grading system. While having your lesson, you may have an opportunity to spar with somebody with the same skills as you. You can actually practice with a real person all of the techniques you have learned up to that period. The sparring should not be very painful but you are going to be able to find out if you've gotten a good handle on your placement and angles.
