Physiotherapy can help you avoid surgery, reduce your medication, manage your pain and reduce the risk of injury. Physios are highly qualified and can help you with a range of conditions and symptoms, including chronic conditions such as arthritis. Compared with many other treatments physiotherapy is also highly cost-effective and you can self refer.
Most of us whether working or non working, suffer neck and back pain. But we don’t give a dman to it. Physical therapy is the science of blending physiology with exercises and applying these principles to the body when an injury is sustained. Physical therapy for back and neck conditions focuses on the structures that support the spine and its joints including muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Studies show that 90% of the population experience spine symptoms at least once in their lifetime. Many people have neck and back pain, but it is not always isolated to those regions. The pain can also travel into arms or head/eyes as well as radiate into the gluts, groin, hip and legs/feet. Each episode of back stiffness and pain can become progressively worse and last longer ...
... and travel farther from its origin. If you don't stop the cycle and figure out the cause of each episode, accumulation of damage to structures lead to eventual failure of the spinal structures. At this stage, physical therapy alone will not be effective.
How do these physiotherapists treat this?
Overall, you need to maintain good posture throughout all of your daily activities. If you start to feel sore or stiff, change your posture and modify your body mechanics. Your body will warn you -- using pain as a signal -- when your body mechanics are improperly aligned. However, many times we choose to ignore these signals in order to complete the project, paper, book, etc. By not listening to your body, sometimes it is too late and the inflammatory process is initiated. The best way to avoid pain is to learn to listen to your body. Sit up straight! It feels better and puts the least amount of strain on your spine! If you sit or bend too often or for too long a period of time, bend in the opposite direction to balance the stresses out and relieve muscle tension. More on sitting: When sitting, arch your back 5 to 10 times if you feel stiff. Repeat two to three times a day.
Posture problem: There’s a lot of talk about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ posture but it mostly relates to the prevention of back pain. Good posture is just as important for the shoulders and arms and hips and lower limbs and poor posture Problem at one joint can have a knock on effect to the joints nearby as well as to the different levels of the spine. Good posture ensures that the joints of the body are bearing weight correctly to avoid strain on the joint surfaces themselves, the supporting ligaments and the muscles and tendons that make the joint move. Poor posture can lead to overstretching or tightening and shortening of structures resulting in poor or inefficient movement patterns and pain.
Physiotherapy can help by identifying the role of posture in the patient’s complaint, be it flat feet or bunions, knee pain, shoulder impingements or back and neck pain. Appropriate advice and exercises will then be given to improve posture, to help to relieve the symptoms and to avoid recurrence. Physiotherapists will teach you how to correct your posture through education and exercises to improve your core strength. And the result can be pleasant, like: You will breathe better and digest your food more efficiently. You will also walk taller, feel slimmer and look longer, leaner and younger. You'll get the right muscles working, supporting your joints rather than stressing them.
Sports injuries: one of the downsides of sport is sports injury. Fortunately, sports injury occurs relatively infrequently, so the health and psychological benefits of participating in sport far outweigh the potential temporary downside of a sports injury. Luckily, medical care continues to improve every year. Health professionals, such as your sports physiotherapists or sports physician, deal with the day-to-day management of sports injury and are experts in the field of sports injury management. The common physiotherapy treatments are
There are over 20 different treatment approaches commonly used by physiotherapist.
Hands-on Techniques
The physiotherapist may include hands-on techniques such as joint mobilisation (gentle gliding) techniques, manipulation, minimal energy techniques (METs), muscle stretches, massage and taping techniques. In fact, the physiotherapist has training that includes techniques used by most hands-on professions such as chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists, acupuncturists, kinesiologists etc.
Exercise Prescription
Exercise therapy has been scientifically proven to be one of the most effective ways that you can solve or prevent pain and injury. The physiotherapist is an expert in the prescription of the "best exercises" for you and the most appropriate "exercise dose" for you depending on your rehabilitation status. Your physiotherapist will incorporate essential components of pilates, yoga and exercise physiology to provide you with the best result.
Biomechanical Analysis
Biomechanical assessment, observation and diagnostic skills are paramount to the best treatment. Any physiotherapist is a highly skilled health professional with superb diagnostic skills to detect and ultimately avoid musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Poor technique or posture is one of the most common sources of repeat injury. Not only can your physiotherapist assist you at sport, they can also assist you at work, whether it is lifting technique improvement, education programs or workstation setups.
Physiotherapy is the ideal place to relieve aches, sprains and sporting injuries without disrupting your working day. With an extensive background in sporting injuries, biomechanics and spinal therapy, the Physiotherapists are dedicated to providing you with effective, quality professional treatment and care.
