Hospital Administration is concerned with planning, organizing, and staffing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating health services for the community to provide maximum care to patients. Today, most hospitals and nursing homes recruit professionals to handle human resources, marketing and medical billing among a host of other related duties. With the Healthcare sector growing at 13%, there will be an increased requirement for trained professionals for efficient administration of state-of-the-art hospitals and clinics being set up across the country by large companies such as Apollo, Max, Fortis, Wockhardt, Tata and several others. The top hospital management institutes in India conduct a Hospital/health care management course which is of two year duration and are generally postgraduate diploma programmes, available to graduates in all disciplines, as well as to doctors, nurses, and paramedics. The programme combines training in management skills, management principles, accounting and business communication, along with specialized knowledge on the working of a hospital, marketing of hospital services, and logistics management. Students also get to know about basic healthcare and nutrition, prevention of communicable diseases, community health and other medical-related services. The Master's/ PG diploma in hospital management programme is designed to train students to become responsible managers who can take charge of the efficient running of hospitals.

Public health professionals include hospital administrators, health care analysts, pharmaceutical company leaders, biostatisticians, and university professors. Working in a wide variety of fields and settings, they share in common a concern with the health care system and the access of patients to medical care. Although it's possible to work in the public health sector without a specialized degree, most positions require at least a Master of Public Health (MPH), the most common degree in the field. Other degrees include the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.S.), the Master of Science in Public Health (MsPH), the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and the Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health (PhD). The more advanced your degree, the greater your earning potential. MPH programs offer specializations in a wide variety of areas, so you will have to prepare for a specific field. Study social science or business if you are interested in administration; study biology or chemistry if you are interested in environmental health; study math or physics if you are interested in biostatistics.
