Make Your Airline Seat More Comfortable

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

People who use cheap travel options, such as cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages to make travel affordable sometimes find that their airline seats are less than comfortable.

Recently, airlines have started removing bulkier, older economy seats and replaced them with new “slimline” models that come with thinner padding. These new seats allow airlines to add more seats onto existing planes.

The following are strategies for making the best out of these new seats and arriving at your destination in good shape:

• Keep the area under the seat in front of you as clear as possible. Only place those items you will need easy access to during the flight in a small purse or bag next to your feet. Pack all the items you want during the flight at the top of your carry-on so that everything else can be stowed overhead.

• A lightweight fleece travel blanket folds very compactly but can keep you warm when your cabin temperature drops.

• To keep your feet warm, particularly if you like to take off your shoes while in the air, bring at extra pair of socks. Such socks can be like those the airlines often give to upper class passengers on long flights or a loose, fuzzy pair.

• Pack a good light blocking eye mask and a neck pillow (preferable the inflatable type since it packs the smallest).

• Given how thin airline seat padding is getting, look into purchasing an inflatable or gel-pack travel cushion.

• Since no standardized airline seat is going to ergonomically match every flier’s body, a lack of support for passengers’ lower backs is often a problem. The solution can be a small, compact lumbar pillow that can be inflatable, gel-pack, or memory foam.

• A good set of noise canceling headphones allows travelers to tune out or in. Blocking ambient noise is helpful to being able to take a nap. Alternatively, invest in a cheap, simple pair of squishy foam ear plugs. If you want to enjoy clearer sound when watching a film or listening to music onboard, use your own headphones.

• Pamper yourself by carrying your favorite skin cream or hand lotion. Desert like dry air is present in most airplane cabins. A few spritzes of hydrating facial mist or a periodic gentle wipe of face and hands with a towelette instantly cools and refreshes. Covering your eyes with pads moistened with soothing extracts of cucumber or green tea is a great way to let your mind relax.
