Skewers are made out of two types of material – wood or stainless steel. No doubt, both the materials have their own advantages and disadvantages, but the common thing in both is that, they both can hold the food pieces together. As per the food you are cooking, you should choose the appropriate skewers. When we compare between the two, most of the people are of the view that Stainless Steel Skewers are much better than the wooden skewers.
First of all we will compare the features of both Stainless Steel Skewers and wooden skewers and then conclude at the end that which one is better.
The longevity of stainless steel skewers is more than the wooden skewers. The steel as we all know are durable in nature and are not prone to any damage even if you handle it without any full care. No doubt, wood is also strong, but the wooden skewers are sleek and thin. Hence, they can break down into pieces, if not handled with ultimate care.
Before threading the vegetables and meat on the skewers you have to coat the skewers with butter or some oil. This is a common step to be followed in both the types of skewers. But, ...
... one difference is there. You will have to presoak the wooden skewers and then use them. When we talk about combination; metal skewers look good with Stainless Steel BBQ Grills. Wooden skewers don't look good.
Food rotates easily on the metal skewers and gets cooked evenly on them. Whereas, in case of wooden skewers, the food may get stuck to any uneven part of the skewer and may not rotate freely. In result, you get burnt or half cooked food.
Wooden skewers are less expensive when we compare the prices of both the types of skewers. But, what is the use of its being less expensive? You cannot reuse them if they get burnt or damaged. You have to rush to the market to buy another set of skewers. Steel skewers can be used again and again and they do not burn also at the time of cooking. Metal skewers may get heated while you are grilling food on them, but this is a mere drawback. You can hold them wearing gloves or with the help of a cloth.
Hope, you have known the difference between wooden skewers and stainless steel skewers. Now, if you are wise, you will choose the metal skewers.
