Using The Internet For Dental Education
Total Articles: 75
This past decade has witnessed a boom in the use of the internet as a source of information. Subject matters from science to the arts to business and medicine have all resorted to the internet as a library upon which to store and to share knowledge on their respective fields. This being so, people have openly used the internet as a resource for news, latest fashions and ideas, developments, issues and opinions regarding any subject matter possible.
Recognizing that the internet is a powerful tool to educate individuals, persons in the dental profession have joined in with the trend to use online portals in order to share information on the subject of dentistry. Dental organizations and dental experts have willingly made information available through the internet in order to guide the public as to getting or receiving the proper knowledge from credible sources. As such, an individual who is curious regarding a particular dental treatment or tooth symptom may find credible websites that offer explanations on it, sometimes even with visual aids to help the reader understand something better. Furthermore, a practicing dental professional who wants to stay in touch with more modernized techniques of providing oral health care may learn about the current or developing trends through online dental education websites. A dental practitioner wanting to take a refresher course on basic dental subjects may also find credible sources for such learning. There is also the chance to join discussions online regarding oral health care issues, which may open an individual to better understanding of the matter.
A simple search on the internet will reveal many websites that offer online dental education. Most of these would cater to dental practitioners looking to attain or complete CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours or points. Such websites offer dental practitioners a convenient means of complying with that requirement of the law for persons in the dental profession to attain a minimum number of CPD hours in order to renew their license to practice dentistry. It is good to note though that these websites do not restrict their audience to such individuals but are open to anyone who wants to seek further study regarding dentistry outside of a formal university education. The person who can benefit from online dental education may still be a dental student or may have already graduated a dentistry course, for as long as there is the willingness to learn.
There are options for dental education beyond the confines of a written book and a lecture room. Many dental organizations and experts in the field have turned to the internet to share knowledge about oral health care and clinical practice because the internet has become such a practical medium for it. Just by going online, dental practitioners are able to continuously learn about old and new subject matters and concerns through dental lectures and study articles authored or given by dentistry professors or credible authorities. One can argue that online dental education provides for a wider range of topics and ideas coming from experts around the world, as compared to what one may learn from library books. This makes using the internet for dental education even more viable.
