Complementary Items Provided By Hotels

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

Frustrated is how many hotel guests feel after carefully reviewing cheap travel options, including cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, only to find when they arrive at their hotel that they have forgotten to pack certain “essentials.”

Before you run off to a drugstore because you left your entire bag of toiletries at home and pay for replacements you should always first check to see what free replacements your hotel offers.

The following are some items many hotels provide at no cost, according to Smarter Travel:

• Hair tools are often available, including not just compact hair dryers, but also straighteners and curling irons. The Kimpton hotel chain is one of the best with an amenities program they call “Forgot It? We’ve Got It.”

• Socks are sometimes provided to guests who forgot to pack them.

• Toothpaste, a toothbrush, and mouthwash are often made available to inquiring guests. The Hyatt chain provides Aquafresh toothpaste to all guests and their pilot “Hyatt Has It” program includes complimentary mouthwash.

• Travel sized sewing kits are frequently provided by major hotels and often can be found in the bathroom or nightstand. Alternatively you should call the front desk to inquire.

• Free kids’ amenities, from crayons and discovery maps to bathtub toys and personalized stationary are sometimes available. It is smart to call in advance to notify your hotel that a child will be with you so that some child friendly amenities can be prepared for your arrival.

• Complimentary yoga gear including maps, blocks, and DVDs are often available when requested.

• Hotels often lend out spare cell phone chargers. A study found that mobile phone chargers were the number one most left behind item in hotel rooms in 2010.

• Adapters (which change the shape of the plug) and converters (which allow your devices to operate with different voltages) are often provided upon request when staying at hotels overseas.

• Hotels frequently include free beach towels in your room rate. It is wise to call ahead to confirm, but many beachside resorts, particularly all-inclusives, offer this amenity. Some hotels include free beach chair rentals and/or complimentary snorkel gear.

• Hotels often stock local travel guides in the lobby or in each guest room. Some chains, such as Holiday Inn, provide a binder of local dining and attractions recommendations that can be found on top of each room’s desk.
