Scaffolding A Safe Work Practice

By Expert Author: Globalscaf

Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings, be it commercial, domestic, and other large structures. The purpose of working on a scaffold is to provide a safe place of work with safe access suitable for the work being done.
The Brisbane commercial Scaffolding provides a comprehensive range of height safety products and scaffolding services to any commercial and residential building industry and private property. The products provided are fit for the purpose and comply with work place health and safety regulations. And it is also cost effective. They supply, erect and dismantle. It is illegal to work 2 meters above without approved fall protection.
The basic components of scaffolding are tubes, couplers and boards. Anywhere we take be it Benalla, the place known for high class and exclusive scaffolding uses these simple but important three items in building the scaffolds.
The basic lightweight tube scaffolding that became the standard and revolutionised scaffolding, becoming the baseline for decades,
Tubes are usually made either of steel or aluminium, although there is composite scaffolding, which uses filament-wound tubes of glass fibre in a nylon or polyester or matrix, because of the high cost of composite tube, it is usually only used when there is a risk from overhead electric cables that cannot be isolated. If steel, they are either 'black' or galvanised. The tubes come in a variety of lengths and a standard. Most large companies will brand their tubes with their name and address in order to deter theft. These are used not only for industrial buildings but also domestic and residential building construction.
Boards provide a working surface for scaffold users. They are seasoned wood which are safe and come in good thicknesses, and with a standard width and are maximum long. The board ends are protected either by metal plates called hoop irons or sometimes nail plates, which often have the company name stamped into them.
Couplers are the fittings which hold the tubes together. The most common are called scaffold couplers, and there are three basic types: right-angle couplers, putlog couplers and swivel couplers. To join tubes end-to-end joint pins (also called spigots) or sleeve couplers are used. Only right angle couplers and swivel couplers can be used to fix tube in a 'load-bearing connection'. Single couplers are not load-bearing couplers and have no design capacity.
Other common scaffolding components include base plates, regular ladders, ropes, anchor ties, reveal ties, gin wheels, sheeting, etc. Most companies will adopt a specific colour to paint the scaffolding with, in order that quick visual identification can be made in case of theft. All components that are made from metal can be painted but items that are wooden should never be painted as this could hide defects
Bamboo scaffolding is widely used in Hong Kong, with nylon straps tied into knots as couplers. In India, bamboo or other wooden scaffolding is also mostly used, with poles being lashed together using ropes made from coconut hair
Advanced scaffolding is a temporary platform either from below or suspended from above, on which a worker stands performing his tasks high above the ground. Construction jobs require several kinds of scaffolds to enable easy work and safety on high levels.
These scaffoldings are used for walkway scaffolding erectors. The walkway scaffolding is done when the road construction is taking place, so it is easy for the general public to cross the path or use that particular stretch of the road.
The Kwikstage scaffolding is a modular system which is widely used when there is need to be flexible, frequent reinstalling, and dismantle. This is highly used in places where construction within a building is taking place and this type is very low on cost too.
Lastly scaffolding can play a very vital role in and during work of various kinds. It is a great protector, for both the workers on the roof top and the general people walking either inside and outside the particular building or in the close vicinity. Scaffolding can protect people from the falling debris and for the workers it is a line of defence against falling and any other kind of accident. Everyone is susceptible to a fall; all it takes is one single small mistake for life to become a hell. Safe work practice should be inculcated in every one and in every business.
