The material has a pleasing texture and is very durable. It can be painted in different shades. It is also easy to carve design on its surface. So much variety also poses a tough task for buyers. Many people get confused about which wood type to choose while buying furnishings. Here are some tips.
Choosing wood type while buying home furniture
Availability of different types of wood
Soft and hard are two most common types of wood used in making furniture. The former variety is produced from coniferous trees while the later one from deciduous trees. They differ in flexibility, colour, pattern of grains etc. Among the solid wood type, cheery and mahogany are very expensive. Adelaide, Akita, Ashby, Studio and Atlas Oak are widely used for making home furniture. If you want less expensive furnishings, you can opt for beech and pine. Ash and elm are noted for their flexibility. People who want good quality products but have limited budget prefer to use expensive wood on the outside and less expensive types in the less visible part of a furnishing.
Furniture for bedroom
In a bedroom, wardrobe, display cabinets, table and bed are common furnishings. Cherry and mahogany are popular wood types used in making these pieces. The material looks classy and is durable. Such furnishings are often not stained as natural texture is more desirable. It is not recommended to use cheap timber for making bed as items made with poor quality wood are not strong and last for short time.
Furnishings for kitchen
Pine is great type of wood for making cabinets. So you can get kitchen cabinets made with this material. Maple is another common choice for making kitchen furniture. Pine makes for an excellent choice for the task because it can be painted easily. So you can get it painted repeatedly in case the surface gets dirty. Maple is strong and durable. It can sustain harsh environment of a kitchen.
A large number of home furnishings are used for storing items. They are often the most visible items in a house. Having good quality of chests and closets shows your status and aesthetic sense. If budget is not a constraint, you can use mahogany and cedar for making the items. Atlas oak also makes for a good choice for making cabinets and similar furnishings. It is sturdy and looks classy. Pine and beech can also be used, if you have a tight budget. They can be painted to mimic the look of more expensive wood types.
You should not get too particular about price when buying furniture. It is not recommended to buy cheap stuff as they last for short time. So your purchase may prove to be expensive in the long run. People do not buy furniture quite often. So, make sure your purchase is fit enough to keep in house for an entire life.
