Become Familiar With Your Destination Airport

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

Cheap travel deals, such as cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages are all great. However, you can further enhance your trip by finding out about the airport you will be flying into prior to your departure.

The following are things you need to know about your arrival airport before taking off, according to Smarter Travel:

• Public transportation is not available between all airports and destination cities. You should research local transportation options (such as subways, buses, trams, and shuttles) offering service out of your airport. Determine the route you will want to take, the cost, and where to buy your ticket. Also check timetables since local transportation often stops running overnight.

• Find out how far away your arrival airport is from your final destination city. Some airports labeled “London” or “Paris” can be over an hour away from those cities. If you are planning on taking a taxi to your hotel, check a map that shows your hotel and airport locations so that you can avoid being overcharged by a taxi driver.

• Finding luggage services in foreign airports, especially one that uses a non English alphabet, can be daunting. Make a point of learning the location of the airport’s luggage services before departing. Most large airports have maps available online.

• When traveling abroad, always find out in advance the customs requirement of your destination country, including required identification, and visas. Make a point of learning duty free limits and bans.

• Some countries charge entry taxes to visitors arriving via certain airports. The amount, currency, and method of payment differ between countries. The U.S. Department of State website provides information regarding such taxes. Also some countries require travelers to pay an exit fee.

• If someone will be meeting you at your arrival airport, determine at exact meeting point in advance.

• Car rental services can be miles away from airports and require taking shuttle rides. Check your rental company for what to expect and the best way to arrive at its rental lot.

• If you are going to have to make a flight connection, you should find out where your connecting terminal is located and if your airport offers transportation, such as a tramway, to get you there. Select airports (such as Heathrow) offer time estimates for intra-terminal travel.

• Find out if your arrival airport offers Wi-Fi. If yes, you will be able to confirm any travel details upon arrival, check local weather, and make a Skype call if necessary.
