No Waiting For Prints With Online Dental Education
Total Articles: 75
For decades, dental professionals and dental students have relied on printed publications such as scientific journals and health magazines as sources of new information pertaining to oral health. In these publications, one may read of experiments that other dental practitioners or experts have conducted and their conclusions on the study. One may also read about new equipment being developed that will enhance the way dentists work or about improved methods or steps for performing dental treatments on the oral cavity. There may also be articles in these publications about dental materials currently being used and the issues that may surround them, which leads to the search for better materials. All significant or note-worthy matters regarding the dental profession – studies, opinions, reviews, surveys, etc – may be published by credible authors in such reading materials, which most other persons in the profession await and turn to for further knowledge.
The development of the internet and continued use of it as a storage of data has significantly changed peoples’ sources of new information. Even in the dental profession, people have relied less on waiting for monthly journal publications to be delivered at the doorstep or to the nearest dental library. There is now the possibility for immediate access to these note-worthy reading materials through online dental education.
The difference between sitting at a library desk surrounded by printed journals and magazines and sitting in front of a computer with internet access is that with the latter, there is a quick, easy and an almost unrestricted method for searching thoroughly on the topic interested in. An advantage of relying on online dental education is therefore that one has countless portals for finding information about the profession through the click of a button. It is easier for one to find related articles and even videos and commentaries pertaining to a certain subject matter or issue through the internet. Furthermore, because the internet has been made into a data storage facility, it is easier for one to access old publications without having to check through library shelves or archives. The amount of data and the variety of data that one may explore online allows for a simple and in-depth understanding and learning of any such topic that one is interested in.
Online dental education has changed and continues to change how information about oral health is made public. More persons are given the chance to have access to note-worthy publications that can enhance their knowledge and skill about the profession, without having to wait for or rely on access to printed material. There are fewer restrictions for an individual who is willing to read, understand and learn more from what their peers and colleagues write. With easy access to such publications via online portals, a dental practitioner’s opportunity for growth in knowledge and expertise in the dental profession is unarguably wide open.
