Frontier Expanding Service To Cleveland

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

Frontier Airlines enjoys a reputation for offering cheap travel options including cheap fares, cheap airplane tickets, and cheap vacation packages. It has decided to add six new destinations from Cleveland this summer, establishing the city as one of its “focus cities” while United Airlines begins to dismantle its hub there.

Frontier’s hub is in Denver, with focus cities currently in Trenton, N.J. and Wilmington, DE.

In early February United announced that it would slash its number of daily Cleveland flights by about 60 percent, retaining most if its “mainline” flights but reducing about 70 percent of those flown by the company’s United Express regional partners. All cuts are expected to be completed by June, leaving United with 72 daily departures vs. 199 at the beginning of the year.

While Frontier’s new flights will not come close to backfilling all of the capacity that United is pulling out, any new airline service to Cleveland is welcomed by the airport. The Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is touting Frontier’s new routes suggesting that locals will benefit from lower prices as the low cost airline increases its Cleveland market share.

Frontier’s new destinations from Cleveland will be Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Florida, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, and Tampa. Starting June 13th Frontier will offer five flights weekly to Atlanta. Three flights weekly will be offered by the airline to the other five destinations. Currently only the Phoenix service will be seasonal.
A 168 seat Airbus A320 jet will be flown by Frontier on all six new routes.

Once the new service commences, Frontier will be flying nonstop to 12 destinations from Cleveland. Today the airline flies from Cleveland to Denver and Trenton, N.J. Nonstop service to Seattle and Orlando will start in June. Frontier also flies from Cleveland to Cancun Mexico and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic via its partnership with Apple Vacations.

Less than a month after United announced its shrinking presence in Cleveland Delta stated that it would add nonstop service from Cleveland to Indianapolis and Raleigh-Durham. Both of these markets are being dropped by United out of Cleveland as United downsizes its operation. Delta will begin servicing these routes on June 5th.

United has announced that it will add new service out of Cleveland to Orlando and Seattle starting in mid-June. The Seattle service will backfill seasonal service that United had previously offered out of Cleveland during the summer season.
