TMJ or temporomandibular joint treatment involves the treatment of sleep disorders as well. You need to be well aware of the causes and symptoms before you start meeting a specialist for the treatment. In case you are not sure if you have TMJ then visit a dentist who can evaluate the condition.
Treatment of sleep apnea will involve making some changes to your lifestyle. If you drink alcohol then the specialist may ask you to quit during the treatment or avoid drinking several hours before your bedtime. You may also need to make some dietary changes and eat healthier food. Fats will be cut down from your diet. TMJ is treated separately from sleep apnea. TMJ treatment may require installing a device in your jaw to align the jaw bone. Temporomandibular joint treatment is often successful with the help of this device. Additional medications like sleep promoters and pain killers are also given to combat the symptoms. Treating TMJ could take a year or two if the problem is minor and not caused due to any serious diseases.
