Anybody who purchases a bottle of wine does so for two reasons. First, it's for saving for a special occasion where wine is traditionally served in celebration. Secondly, it is for personal consumption. Unless the second reason involves daily consumption of wine, the bottle is usually just left in the house undisturbed unless an event worthy of uncorking it comes along. That said, the first scenario is much more common. So why do you even have to bother buying a bottle of wine if you're just going to store it at home?

As mentioned before, celebrating with wines is common practice. You never know when a piece of good news comes along that calls for a glass or two. Promotions, pregnancies, winning the lottery, and other unexpected good tidings can easily be celebrated with wine if you already have one around.

If that doesn't convince you, then at least consider the health benefits that you get from wine. Chances of heart diseases, heart attacks, stroke, and even diabetes can significantly be reduced by drinking wine. As it is an alcoholic beverage, there's a concern in developing cancer and other alcohol-related ...
... health problems. Studies actually show that lung, ovarian, and prostate cancer risks are reduced when drinking wine moderately.

Non-drinkers may have a concern with ill effects of alcohol. For one, liver damage is common among alcoholics, usually in heavy beer-drinkers. With wine, however, drinking moderately with a few "rest days" every week should be enough to reap the health benefits of wine without wreaking too much havoc on the liver.

Besides health benefits, there are other reasons to keep a bottle of wine at home. If you're fond of cooking, then you can start experimenting with your dishes with wine and be a better chef. Wine can be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. It can be used as an additive to sauces, as the dressing for salads, as a garnish on fried dishes, and even as a marinade to meat. As marinade, the alcohol in wine destroys cancer-causing components in meat in addition to adding to the flavour.

Most people who do not have the stomach to finish an old bottle of wine make ice cubes out of them. This way, the wine does not spoil any further and can be used on a wide assortment of beverages any time they want.

If you've consumed all your wine and don't know what to do with the empty wine bottles, they can still serve a purpose. If you have wine racks, empty bottles of wine can still serve as ornaments. If you want to do a little recycling, turn them into lamps. You can even get a decorative wine rack for added effect. One such rack resembles a Christmas tree, and the bottles are the leaves. The possibilities are endless!

Having a wine bottle at home can help in a variety of ways. You get to celebrate any time. You can get a plethora of health benefits provided you drink moderately. And finally, you have future décor for your home.

If you'd like to start having wine, try the cheap yet excellent shiraz red wine.
