Reasons To Prefer Online Dental Education
Total Articles: 75
These past years have seen a trend in the growth of internet users from around the world. Even developing countries accept that having and providing people with access to the internet is of significant importance, especially in keeping up with modernization and staying at par with developed nations. For most people, the internet has become a tool that has made their daily lives easier – whether it is in helping to find directions to a particular place, in learning news about a health scare, or in receiving alerts regarding new publications or discoveries in their field of work. Hence, most companies and institutions have turned to the internet for dissemination of information and knowledge, in order to keep up with the demand for online versions and access to such.
The field of dentistry is no exception to this movement. The profession recognizes that there are people who favor taking online dental education rather than enrolling in a school institution. These people are not limited to a specific pool but include those already practicing dentistry and need study modules for CPD (Continuing Professional Development), students earning a degree through an online course and even students enrolled in dental school looking to expand their sources for knowledge.
Those who prefer online dental education do so for many different reasons. One such reason, and the most popular, is the flexibility of this method of learning. Any person with access to the internet may participate in getting a good education at his or her own convenience. Whatever time of day it is and wherever a person is located, the study modules are made available through the internet. A practicing dentist may fulfill the required CPD hours via online modules and lectures without compromising the time allotted for work in the clinic. A working student does not have to compromise a job in order to gain an education. Having learning modules available online allows a person to balance studying with other aspects in life such as work and caring for a family.
Another reason to prefer online dental education is that the student may concentrate on a subject and really take the time to understand it without any time pressure as what some would encounter in a lecture room. The teaching becomes student-centered because it takes place at the student’s pace and through the learning methods such student is comfortable with. Furthermore, this assures that each lesson is understood before moving on to the next topic. This contributes well to a person’s comprehension of the subject matter and eventually manifests in the application of knowledge.
Some people resort to the internet because of the savings in expenses. Being able to study within the comfort of one’s home lessens the extra expense of travelling to and from the school, and in some cases, of having to stay in an apartment nearby. For working professionals, earning CPD hours through online dental education saves them the extra costs of seminars and workshops.
These compelling reasons have caused the dental profession to acknowledge the growth in number of people who seek an alternative method of study and getting information. With the modernization of living, the advancement of internet technology and having information easily accessible through the internet, it should be expected that persons – no matter at what stage in their life they find themselves – will find legitimate reasons to prefer online dental education over the conventional, institutional method of learning.
