What Makes A Charismatic Leader?
Total Articles: 6
Leadership calls for a tremendous amount of broad based skills, attributes, and talents. Though the various leaders have got different attributes, all the excellent leaders share something in common: they are generally charismatic individuals.
It's quite impossible to lead effectively if a leader lacks a good amount of charisma. The qualities of a charismatic leader are tough to miss. Consider this a great thing because as soon as you recognize the signs of a good leader, you will be well on your way towards modeling those same characteristics.
The first manifestation of a charismatic leader would be appearance.
Does the individual fit the part of a leader? If not then he or she is not somebody who anyone will wish to follow. A charismatic leader is somebody who dresses well, is well-groomed, and seems like he or she is in good health. However, this doesn't mean donning costly clothes or having the most buff body. This just means you must fit the bill -- that you look your best and that individuals view you as a leader just by looking at how you present yourself.
A charismatic leader is a good speaker. Know that charisma is about drawing people in. If you are able to speak clearly, concisely, and articulately, you can draw people in. It's actually a must for leaders to have great speaking abilities. You must be able to convey your directives to your followers in a way that they can comprehend. That makes it possible for people to properly follow your lead. However, one vital thing has to be brought up. Issuing directives to people doesn't imply screaming instructions or demanding them to do what you want.
That isn't a charismatic approach for a leader to adopt.
A charismatic leader isn't only an effective speaker, he or she is also a great listener. Many folks are self-absorbed to the point their conversational abilities are one-sided. People fail to get the chance to share their thoughts. Charismatic leaders are conscious listeners, giving other people the opportunity to speak. This shows others that they care and people tend to trust these leaders. Any time you have faith in a leader, you are more willing to follow his or her directives. And no, you cannot fake your way through this. Either you develop excellent listening skills or you don't.
People can sense when a person is genuinely listening to them and when somebody is just faking it.
Virtually without exception, charismatic leaders are optimistic people. Their actions and words mirror their positive perspective, and they are continually ready to explain the benefits of their actions. Being optimistic has a motivational aspect to it and when you can persuade and motivate folks, you project charismatic leadership traits.
As you have seen, there is no magic or hidden secret to developing the characteristics of a charismatic leader.
Many of these characteristics are rooted in very basic common sense human interactions. Keep these attributes in mind and strive to apply them in your day to day life. It won't be long before you grow to be a charismatic leader yourself.
