Having a belief that any type of skewer can be used for grilling food is something wrong that you are thinking. You should opt for the steel skewers instead of wooden skewers. The raison d'être behind this is that, in the latter one there is a possibility of splintering and the wood pieces cannot be traced out even if you eat it along with your food. One more advantage of stainless steel skewers over wood skewers is that food clings to steel skewers in a better manner. Flat tip Kebab Skewers should be used to be on safer side. Blunt tip skewers are not only safe to use, but also renders a better look.
If you want to use Shashlik Skewers made up of wood, then make sure that you have soaked them in water for about 15 minutes and more before using them. Coating both the steel and wood skewers with olive oil prior to their use is a smart decision. This will make your food slide more smoothly onto them.
A grill and skewers are the essential utensils for cooking a healthy, quick and lip smacking main course. Vegetables chunks, tofu, kebab, meat are bayoneted on the sleek rods and then grilled for preparing a hearty meal. Cleanup of these skewers after meal is mandatory. Thus, whatever food you want to grill, right skewers should be used for doing the food preparation task.
The skewer's length depends upon the type of food you are going to prepare. Foods that you are going to serve as hors d'oeuvres or appetizers are best stringed on metal skewers of short length, thereby enabling your guests to take the skewers as much as they want from the serving platter that is being passed around to every guest. Main course meal is best stringed on metal skewers of long length. Not much skewers will be required for preparing the entire main course.
Metal skewers having two prongs are best suitable for preparing those food items, which spins while the skewer is rotated over the BBQ. Scallops, shrimps, peppers and mushrooms are a few food items that can be grilled on two pronged metal skewers. The two prongs do not permit them to spin or revolve as they are pierced skewered at two points.
If you don't want the headache of cleaning the skewers after the guest are gone, then you can use wooden skewers. After eating one can toss them off or dispose them and the skewer cleaning task is eliminated completely.
Either you are cooking Kebab or Shashlik, use appropriate skewers for preparing them.
