They are based on the bracelets found in Brazil that bear a wish ribbon (fita), which represents luck.

The fita is considered a charm that comes from a 200-year-old Brazilian tradition. The Igreja de Nosso Senhor do Bonfim (Church of Saint Bonfim) in Brazil bears thousands of these wish ribbons on the fence that guards its perimeter. Each one is said to represent someone’s wish or prayer. It is believed that, in order for a wish to be granted, the ribbon must be a gift that is worn on the receiver’s left wrist, tied with three knots that must be made by someone other than the giver or receiver and that a wish must be made with each knot.

Who could have imagined these vibrantly colored, fita bracelets would one-day lead to such a serious fashion statement? Apparently, two young and trend-setting Parisian women did. Jenny and Delphine loved to wear lots of the cheerfully colored trinkets but disliked the hassle of tying, untying and then retying them again until inevitably the strings frayed, and the bracelets broke.

The two women updated the design by adding a magnetic, clasp closure to the bracelets, and that’s how the Hipanema bracelets were born. The bracelets come in eight unique styles made from environmentally sustainable, superior-quality products. They are designed in a manner that guarantees that no two bracelets are exactly alike. Each one is a distinctive blend of colors, textures and beads. Some brandish quartz stones, pearls or shells while still others flaunt rose beads. Some are woven, and others braided or meant to be worn bangle style, but each one of them is a work of art meant to be worn around the wrist and make your wishes come true.
