The term anemometer is derived from the Greek word anemos or wind. It’s a term to refer to an instrument typically found in weather stations because it measures wind velocity. Historical records would show that the first reference to the anemometer was in 1450 by Leon Battista Alberti. Since then, the device has not changed much as different civilizations have developed their own wind measuring devices from Europe, Americas to the Mayans. The father of the modern and versatile measuring tools today is perhaps Derek Watson in 1991 when he designed a tool with the ability to measure wind direction.

Modern use of anemometers

The Lutron anemometer today not only measure wind speed but also pressure as well as temperature through the thermometer located at the sensor. There are so many measurement units in today’s device such as feet per minute, kilometers per hour, miles per hour, meters per second, nautical miles per hour, cubic feet per minute and beauforts.

Professional and amateurs can use the anemometer Lutron to monitor ionizer flow output, air duct measurements, positive pressure readings, auto engine ...
... and passenger, inspection of the air conditioner and heating system, and fume hood verification.

Different types of anemometer

There are different types of anemometer such the sonic, laser doppler, sonic windmill and cup. Although they vary in design, they pretty much work the same and that is to measure wind speed. They are used for aerodynamics and meteorological findings. You can either buy one or make one, although with DIY methods ensuring accurate readings could be a factor.

Advantages of the anemometer

Modern anemometers today are very handy that you can fit them into your pocket. That provides a lot of mobility for users who are on the field. Ventilation technicians, for example, can bring the Lutron anemometer to the field when trying to check the air-conditioner of the home or the heater system. Outdoor enthusiasts can also use the device to check for wind speed before they can go sky diving or climbers in order to adjust accordingly.

Mobile anemometer

The hand-held Lutron anemometer is a very small device measuring just a few inches wide. But don’t let the size fool you, because in terms of accuracy the technology is just better today. It’s more accurate that your father’s wind vane and it provides another advantage of measuring the temperature, pressure and direction as well. Unlike the old anemometer, the Lutron will continue to give accurate readings regardless of the strong currents and sudden changes in wind direction. Beaufort scales are normal features for today’s anemometer which will provide even better reading. The anemometer Lutron also underwent some stress test to determine its resiliency in the face of extreme conditions.
