One of the most popular sports philosophies is to valuing sports because it builds character. Those who ascribe to this philosophy offer many reasons for the character-building qualities of sport, ranging from fostering the development of social skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and leadership to teaching personals skills such as self-discipline, work ethic and coping with disappointment.

Sports are seen as having a positive impact on a child’s personality, character and makeup. Children have to be active every day. Physical activity stimulates growth and leads to improved physical and emotional health. Research shows that the importance of physical activity in children is stronger than ever. Highly active children are less likely to suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer of the colon, obesity, and coronary heart disease later in life. Exercise is also known to relieve stress. Some children experience as much stress, depression, and anxiety as adults do. And because exercise improves health, a fit child is more likely to be well-rested and mentally sharp. Even moderate physical activity has been shown to improve a child’s skill at arithmetic, reading, and memorization. But sport, not just exercise, gives a child more than just physical well-being; it contributes to a child’s development both psychologically and socially.

Sport can affect a child’s development of self-esteem and self-worth. It is also within sport that peer status and peer acceptance is established and developed. One way children gain acceptance by their peers is to be good at activities valued by other children. Because sport is important to children, being good at sports is a strong social asset. Children who are competent at sports are more easily accepted by children of their own age, and are more likely to be team captains and group leaders. Such children usually have better social skills.

Sports and games are means of mental and physical growth. During sports we come to learn many things. We learn how to maintain mental balance in the midst of hopes and despair. They make us learn how to tackle the difficult situation. Sports develop a sense of friendliness. They develop in us team spirit. They help in developing mental and physical toughness. They shape our body and make it strong and active. They give us energy and strength. They remove tiredness and lethargy. They improve blood circulation. This improves our physical well-being.

Sports and games improve our capability. They improve our efficiency. Either study or work alone makes us exhaust. We remain no longer efficient to do any work. Sports remove our mental exhaustion. Sports are integral part of education. Education without sports is incomplete. Keeping their value in life, children are taught different sorts of games in the very early stage in school. For Sanskriti, sports are a part of the academic curricula. Different outdoor games are taught to the students like basketball, badminton, volleyball, cricket and skating. Martial art like Karate also forms an integral part of the curricula. Sanskriti celebrated its Sports Day on Dec 28th ,2013 which witnessed the showcasing of talents of its students through drill and dance followed by the prize giving ceremony for different sports events which were held previously. It had selected “water” as its theme since the United Nations General Assembly declared 2013 as the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation. Sanskriti extended its hand of cooperation supporting the cause and used the props and costumes in accordance with the theme “water”. The performances by the students were enormously applauded and the day ended with every parent’s heart filled with pride and euphoria for the bright accomplishments by their wards.
