E.g. in trade shows, exhibitions and other identical scenarios. In such situations, go for UHF technology based portable two-ways radio because there is a very minimal chance of any obstruction.
Single channel or steady frequency dependent VHF and UHF equipments in TV band are not regarded as fine choice for travelling. This is because almost all VHF and UHF TV channels are placed at one or other location and create frequency clashes. To avoid these clashes, you should use frequency-active UHF based two-ways radio.
When smaller and less-visible antennas are important e.g. when body transmitters have to be hidden, you should select UHF portable two-ways radio. UHF will be good when high-performance antennas are required for use in extended range.
VHF is best for use in vegetation areas or where it is possible for the signal to pass through the objects easily. Thus VHF is suitable for outdoor purpose but if the application demands both outdoor and indoor use, UHF based radio reigns supreme.
There are various situations where VHF based portable two-ways radio will be appropriate as compared to UHF based two way radio, and may also come at less price. At other times, UHF based two way radios will be ideal. There will always be complications in utilizing either one of the two and diverse factors have to be taken into account.
