Well here it is again. That time of year when you have made a resolution to better yourself and be healthier be the person you want to be this year. As the New Year progresses, we may be getting further away from this resolution. It happens to the best of us. We make plans for our life and then life gets in the way.
One of the most common resolutions people make is to eat healthier, lose weight and/or get in shape. This makes even more sense as the dietary doldrums of the holiday season leave most people feeling dull.
But how do we actually do this? How do commit to a plan for health, feel good doing it and lose the weight?
The answer, it seems, is actually pretty simple. There is no rocket science in the realm of the human body. If we put good things into our bodies by way of food, exercise, happiness, and positive thoughts the body typically responds in kind with a generally healthy outcome.
Sometimes it is that first step. If we can create a little bit of momentum and see the positive result we can actually get carried away by the momentum and change comes much quicker and more substantial. Make no mistake about it: change is not achieved without hard work, diligence, and patience. The spoils of this type of work are immeasurable. True, lasting health and wellness.
Before you engage in that new diet or health plan remember some simple things that can improve your ability to stick with the plan.
1. Drink More Water: The body has many cries for water on a daily basis. One of them is actually hunger. Sometimes when you are thirsty your body presents as hungry. Most Americans are chronically dehydrated leading to a whole host of symptoms. Rest assured no matter how much water you are drinking-increase it.
2. Don't Eat Before Bed: This one is pretty simple. A big problem with weight gain is late night calorie loading. We recommend not eating at least 3 hours before your bedtime. This gives the body a chance to break down your food before and increases your daily fasting time by a number of hours.
3. Eat Breakfast: Breakfast is so named because that is what it is supposed to be- a break in a fast. As in you haven't eaten since dinner the night before and now your body needs some nutrition. And when you do eat breakfast make sure you get some quality proteins, fats, and carbs. A good balanced breakfast has untold benefits on your daily energy and health.
4. Think About What You Do: Most people end a new diet or health plan because they don't take the time to be mentally prepared for it. By simply thinking about it a little and really examining why you want to make this change can be very profound in your success.
