Make Flying Comfortable

By Expert Author: www.cheapfares.com

While cheap travel options, such as cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages make travel affordable for many passengers it is sometimes difficult to be comfortable when flying in coach.

The news about airplane seats is not positive. Airlines have started replacing bulkier, older economy seats with new slimline models that come with thinner padding enabling airlines to squeeze even more seats onto planes.

The following are strategies recommended by Christopher Hall for making the best out of flying coach and getting to your destination in good shape:

• Pack in such a manner that you are able to keep the area under the seat in front of you as clear as possible. Be discerning as to the items you will really need easy access to during the flight. Then place only those items in a purse, small satchel, or day pack that can slip in next to your feet.

• Create a cocoon by carrying on a lightweight fleece travel blanket that will fold up to almost nothing but keep you warm when the cabin temperature falls. To avoid cold feet bring an extra pair of socks. Such socks can either be special flight socks that airlines sometimes give to premium class passengers, or a loose fuzzy pair. A good light blocking eye mask and a neck pillow can often make the difference when you want to successfully take a nap. Given how thin airline seat padding is these days, consider bringing your own inflatable or gel pack travel cushion.

• Remember that no standardized airline seat is ever going to ergonomically match each passenger’s body given the wide range of human shapes and sizes. Often the problem is a lack of support for the lower back. The solution is to carry a small, compact lumbar pillow that can be inflatable, gel pack, or memory foam.

• Tune out the noise around you by carrying noise canceling headphones. Alternatively, an effective way to reduce ambient noise is a simple pair of squishy foam ear plugs. If you are planning on watching a movie or listening to music, remember that headphones from home will also provide much clearer sound than headphones provided by the airline.

• Many fliers find that a dab of skin cream or hand lotion can perk a traveler up on long flights. Most passengers experience desert like dry air while flying. A few spritzes of hydrating facial mist or an occasional gentle wipe of face and hands with a scented towelette instantly cools and refreshes. Consider closing your eyes while flying and covering them with a pair of eye pads moistened with soothing extracts of cucumber or green tea.
