Dont Brace Yourself! Why A Posture Brace For Women Wont Work!

There is no doubt that poor posture is rampant in the world and it affects all age groups - not just senior citizens; along with both men and women. Brace yourself for this… the main reason bad posture is such a common problem in the modern world is: electronic technology. It seems the very things that are making everyone’s life easier, more entertaining and fun, like cell phones, televisions, video games, tablets, laptops and even automobiles, are also increasing the propensity for everyone to slouch. Why? Because everyone slouches for endless hours everyday day while engaged with all these different forms of technology. In fact, it is very difficult not to have poor posture while using these things unless one really focuses on not doing it. Over time, constant slouching causes the primary postural muscles in the body to form out of alignment.
The musculature and connective tissue in the human body, for all its’ glory, is what is considered a “direct feedback” mechanical mechanism. In other words, there is a direct consequence (response) to any and all mechanical stimulus that is imposed on it. In the case of chronic & constant slumping, postural muscles begin to tighten and lengthen in response to the position they are always placed in; and the more time that one exhibits a bad posture the more the postural muscle malformation sets-in and, thereby, becomes harder to correct.
Initially, a posture brace for women (or men) appears to be bona-fide posture solution but, upon closer examination, a posture brace can actually make ones posture worse over time.
By the very definition of being a “brace” a posture brace for women (or men for that matter) provides extra support which forces the primary postural muscles into proper alignment. Initially, this method/device appears to work because the posture is realigned. However, by the very nature of offering extra support, and firmly forcing postural muscles into proper alignment, a posture brace for women is actually doing the work the postural muscles should be doing. As a result, one’s postural muscles then become weaker over time, which means one has to wear the posture brace at all times to maintain the posture aligning benefits.
The basic questions is… Who wants to wear a posture brace all the time? That’s not a solution – it’s a band-aid only serving to temporarily mask the real problem and, ultimately, it ONLY makes the problem worse. The best way to get the spine into proper alignment is through targeted stretching and strengthening of the postural muscles and this is best achieved through exercise.
So the moral of this story is, if you have forward posture, don’t brace yourself with a posture brace for women (or men) because they will only make the problem worse.
