Health insurance experts say new prices will vary and much depends on where a person lives, their age and the type of policy they decide to buy. Some, including young people and those with skimpy or low-excess plans, may see an increase. Others, including those with health problems or who buy coverage with higher excesses than they have now, may see lower premiums Health insurance is a plan that people buy in return for coverage on all kinds of medical care. Most plans cover consultants' appointments, hospital stays, and medications. If you buy a health insurance plan, it generally covers a broad range of services, and pays you or your health care provider for a portion or all of your medical bills. If you buy a medical discount plan, you generally are paying for a list of providers and sellers who may be willing to offer “discounts” on some of their services, products or procedures. Medical discount plans don’t pay all your health care costs. There are many different ways to buy health insurance, and the costs and benefits vary widely for each one. You'll need to see which options are available to you, given your health needs, age, and job status. You'll probably have to wade through a lot of health care buzzwords , too. Ending pre-existing-condition exclusions and requiring health insurance companies to provide insurance to all takers would be difficult without the mandate. If people knew they could get coverage for an illness at anytime, they might just wait until they were sick to sign up. Having a significant number of people paying premiums only when they're sick would cause health-care premiums to spike and would be a disaster for the health-care system.
