There are different types of mobility scooters available in the market. Some of them operate on batteries that should be recharged periodically once it is used for driving. Like a mobile phone, these rechargeable scooters should also be charged for using it. There are also electric mobility scooters for disabled.

These are mobility aids just like wheelchairs, but they are configured like motor scooters. It is generally referred to as power operated scooter/vehicle or electric scooter. Generally, these vehicles will have a seat over two back side wheels, a flat area for placing the feet and there will be a handlebar for steering the front wheels, which may be one or two in number. These vehicles are generally powered by batteries and one or two of them are stored on board and are charged with the help of a separate battery charger unit or an onboard charger. There are also those that are powered by Gasoline, but they are getting replaced by electric alternatives these days.

These vehicles with assistive and small sit-down motors are mainly beneficial to individuals with mobility issues. When compared to conventional wheel chairs, the swiveling of the seat will be easier in these vehicles. So, these automobiles can be of great help to people with whole-body or systematic disabilities due to obesity, arthritis and lung or coronary issues, but are able to still stand and walk a few steps and can also sit straight without torso support.

When it comes to the selection of the right electric mobility scooter for disabled, different factors like the purpose and how often it should be used should be considered. For instance, an individual, who is planning to purchase it for a daily use, will have to opt for a model, which is different from the one that is going to be used rarely.

The batteries present in the mobility scooter can be recharged and this depends on the model of the vehicle. Some of them can allow a distance coverage of about 30 miles with a single charge, while some other model can cover around 10-15 miles. Sometimes, batteries can be upgraded to get better performance or else the user can carry an additional battery pack as well.

Some companies are dealing with different models ranging from smaller variants to bigger ones. Even some of them have given a comparison chart showing the different types of vehicles they have and these charts can be helpful in arriving at the right decision.
