Every nation deserves development for a better future. India is a developing country and development in every sector becomes important for its all-round growth. Gujarat enlists itself in the category of new developing states of the country. Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, an eminent personality in the political book of the nation of recent times has emerged as one of the most successful CM in the history of Indian politics.

After the disastrous earthquake in the year 2001 and the enormous loss faced by the state, the state re-catapulted itself within very less time. The whole credit goes to chief minister, Narendra Modi who tried every measure to drag the state in the upward direction. Modi came up with a new developmental model. The model, termed as Gujarat developmental model, is based on three pillars - agriculture, industry and service. Ever since its inception the Gujarat developmental model has received varied reviews from inside and outside of the country. While some have appreciated it whole heartedly, some have passed remarks against it. The model is based on two very simple principle components. Firstly, to create a favorable way to attract new private investment to increase the economic growth. Secondly, to build an atmosphere of honest, transparent and effective governance to maintain the investment.

With the implementation of the model, the state produced a massive growth in agriculture sector as well as improved on its water supply system. ICICI bank chairman K.V. Kamath found the developmental model very helpful to attain a progressive nation and said that the model should be followed by the entire nation for development. It is one of the most successful models of recent times. Not only few other states of the country has expressed an interest in it, but our neighbouring nation, Pakistan has also expressed its desire to purchase electricity from Gujarat to meet its inadequate power supply.

Modi has been highly appreciated for his developmental model by the envoys of Latin America. In a meeting with Modi, they expressed their desire to conduct business with Gujarat as they see high possibilities of getting good results from their respective countries. In the last few years, Modi and his government have shown an upward curve in growth rate of the state than to the other competitor states.

But with the amidst all the acclaim, criticism is also being faced by the Gujarat CM for his developmental model. Medha Patkar, a noted social activist of Kolkata have made strong comments on Modi and his developmental model, calling it a corporate model which will serve corporate companies enormously. The model has provided land to corporate houses which belonged to the poor people. She further added that Indians had always pursued a Gandhian model of development in the country, which meant that production by the masses and not mass production. This new model leads to greater injustice to masses.

Few days back, Narendra Modi visited Mumbai for his election rally where he clearly focused on selling his developmental model in Maharashtra. But things did not work in his favour as very few takers came up for Modi’s Gujarat model.

Gujarat is a prospering state of the nation. Narendra Modi is given credit for much of its developments. With the implementation of the developmental model, the state is on its way to prosperity.
