Online Punjabi Suit Of Benarasi/brocade

Brocade is a rich fabric that is woven with a raised and elaborate design, often using gold, silver or zari threads. The Banarasi handloom fabrics are known for their pure silk and zari brocades. The borders and pallus are generally ornamented with silk and rich heavy zari work in exquisite designs. Ashrafi, guldasta, ambi, latifa, bel-butta are some of the popular motifs used for brocades and woven with embroidery styles like zardozi, Aari, Gota, Kohra. Mughal inspired patterns are also employed such as intricate floral intertwining, leaves, string of upright leaves known as Jhallar, mostly at the edges and border.

Other brocade adornments constitute items like small detailed figures, metallic visual effects, Jal or Net pattern, Mina work. The richness of the brocades heightens the grand, dazzling effect of the Banarasi fabrics, at the same time also contributing to the overall weight. Sometimes precious and semi-precious stones, sequins, beading also are used to adorn brocades. Brocades are woven using supplementary weft technique to make it appear like the weave is embroidered on. The jacquard arrangement on looms is generally used for such purpose.
