Am I able to survive for a while before the business starts earning a profit? There's almost always a time lag between starting a business and earning money from it. Before you see a profit, you will have to be able to pay your personal and business expenses somehow. It's important to know how long you can survive while your company finds its footing. Answering this gives you a clear idea of when you will have to start making a profit from your business.

You really need to figure these things out before you get your business going. A horrible situation would be hiring staff to help you with what you are doing, only to find that you are doing most of the work while they sit around. This is a total waste of money! This is why you have to figure out your business ahead of time. You need to know what your role in your business will be, and what exactly your business is all about.

Who is going to be my primary competition? Will you be targeting individuals or businesses with what you are selling? Your USP (unique selling position) will not be known to you until you can identify who your competitors are, something you need to know if you want to actually have success. Once this is put together, and done appropriately, your buyers should have no problem understanding why, in your field and demographic, you have the best product or service available. If you don't know who your primary competitors are, you can't prove that you are the best business person within your market. Starting a business is a major step, and requires you to make some choices. Both online and offline businesses demand plenty of time and attention during the preparatory stages. The above are some of the main questions you should start with. More questions will present themselves as you progress with your business. The first questions you must answer, though, are the most basic ones.
