Post Graduate Diploma in Management or PGDM as it is commonly called is offered by a number of educational institutes all over the country. Before we elaborate on PGDM, let us try to know the difference between diploma in management and a degree in the same. A diploma is offered by an institution if it is autonomous body and not affiliated to any University for offering the degree.
Many educational institutes choose to be autonomous to have the freedom of designing their own curriculum and not follow outdated University curriculum. So it can be said PGDM courses are more relevant to the needs of the industry as they are updated regularly. But a word of caution, students need to check the accreditation of the college. Any autonomous body offering course in PGDM should be accredited from AICTE which is the regulatory agency governing technical education in the country. To add information in this context, any college offering MBA is affiliated to a University which is further controlled by University Grants Commission which can also be accredited by AICTE. Typically, if a PGDM has to be equivalent to MBA, then the institute/ college offering the course should have accreditation from The Association of Indian Universities.
