The Best Way To Select Led Bulbs
Total Articles: 7959
To date, incandescent and fluorescent lamps ruled the roost and LED lights were more of an exception than a norm. CFL’s are energy-efficient in comparison to traditional filament-based bulbs but do not save as much energy as LED bulbs save. Bulbs like LED mr16 bulbs can be very energy efficient and you can end up saving a large amount of money over a period of time. So, if LED bulbs are so much better than CFL bulbs why have they not displaced the latter from the market? There are 2 distinct reasons for this.
The 1st generation LED mr16 bulbs had focused and narrow beams. Apart from this, LED bulbs were far more expensive than incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. Today, many of the LED bulbs are clustered and provide more light. They also have diffuser lens mounts which spreads the light over wider areas. Advances in manufacturing technology have also brought down the operational and manufacturing costs in LED bulb manufacturing industries. Today, the prices of LED bulbs are more comparable with the prices of incandescent bulbs. The moment is not far when the initial costs of LED bulbs will be in line or even lower than the price of other bulbs.
It is always this initial cost that is the deterrent for consumers. But the cost factor of LED bulbs has to be looked at from a broader perspective. These bulbs can burn for upto 50,000 hours which is roughly 17 years. Apart from this, the light they emit is not hot. This means that you also save on air-conditioning costs. When you put all these factors together, LED bulbs of all kinds are definitely a much more cost-effective option. They are efficient, power savers and environment friendly as they do not contain any lead or mercury. All these reasons should make LED bulbs your preferred choice.
There is also a variety of LRD bulbs available in the market today. Here are a few pointers you should keep in mind while selecting a bulb:
• Decide what wattage you need. Check the bulb package for the illumination level. A 3 watt LED bulb is equivalent to a 45W incandescent bulb in terms of its output.
• Pick from a variation of cool or warm light. You will be able to find LED bulbs that throw ‘cool’ light. This kind of lighting is perfect for task lighting, in study lamps or kitchens. The ‘warm’ light is generally used in small or accent lighting areas or in areas that you are not going to require any directional light.
LED bulbs are also available in the standard base or a pin base. You can get them in a range of socket or in the standard screw style. These are also called Edison bases and may be used in track or recessed lighting. You can also choose between dimmable or standard bulbs. Some LED bulbs will be available in the dimming variants and you can take your pick.
