The Electrical Substation Transformers: Purpose And Benefits
Total Articles: 58
The electricity isn’t delivered directly to household or consumers. There is a procedure being followed in order to achieve a well organized flow of electricity. The substation transformer will also control the voltage supply to entering to every consumer. The control of voltage is very important so that each consumer will be receiving not an excessive amount of voltage. Now, it is the job of the electrical substation to perform specific task. It also controls the network to check if it is working fault free and optimally.
So, what to be found in the substations?
Basically, each major substation component has power transformer. Such device is utilized to either increase or decrease the power voltage being fed into it. On the other hand, certain switchgear is another key component that helps support as well as protects circuits. This also increases the reliability of electrical supply like reducing faulty currents.
The circuit breaker on the other hand is use to cut or stop the power supply when the problem arises. For example, when the circuit is disconnected, automatically the circuit will then pulls apart from the contacts. There are several property types that can activate the opening like gas, vacuum, oil, and air.
What is the difference of each electrical substation? The electrical substation has two types: the large and small substations. So depending on the location, substation either increases or decreases the voltages relayed.
1. Large substation transformer. This is also known as the grid substation. In order to send power to far regions or areas, the voltage needs to be increased to complete the journey. The high voltage of electrical currents leaves the large substations with higher overhead lines. It carries insulators that are made of glass and ceramics to ensure that electrical current won’t be travelling via ground.
2. Small substation transformer. The smaller substations’ main purpose is to directly deliver the needed electric supply to hospitals, factories, or the rail network for an example. The electrical current needs to pass through substations.
What is the purpose of power transformer? The transformer transmits the electricity that is generated from fossils also known as power plants. In power plants, the electricity has higher voltage which will be reduced before it reaches every consumer in any particular destinations or areas. An expert can analyze the strength of the electricity by merely checking the transformer. The higher the voltage, the more coils it has and the lower the voltage, the lesser the coil it has.
The cores that can be found on the power transformer are toroidal or laminated. The difference of toroidal with laminated is the fact that toroidal produces lesser noise and smaller as well as light compared with the latter one. There are actually different types of transformers and each type has their own identity and advantages. So, depending on consumer they can choose what transformer to utilize in order for them to come up with a reliable source of energy.
