Ayurveda Method Of Treatment For Asthma

Inflammation in the airways of the lungs and bronchial tubes causes asthma attacks in human beings. Though, there is no medicine for treating this ailment, patients can follow some preventive measures to control its recurrences. Of all the methods, Ayurveda method of treatment for asthma is considered to be the safest and most effective.

According to Ayurveda, asthma is caused due to aggravation of Vata and Kapha in the body .The aggravation happens when too much toxins gets accumulated in the patient’s body due to improper food habits. Therefore, the main aim of the Ayurveda treatment is to flush out toxins from the body and to strengthen the immune system, so that the body can be rebalanced.

Ayurvedic asthma treatment procedure begins with the consultation and diagnosis of the patients conditions by an Ayurveda doctor. Depending upon the victim’s symptoms it may last for an hour or more. It is to be noted that the treatment prescribed by the doctor for a patient suffering from severe asthma attacks may differ from that of a milder asthmatics.

During the diagnosis nails, tongue, pulse and eyes are carefully examined by the doctor to determine the body humors of the patient .After this, systematic treatment procedure is chalked out by the doctor to treat the asthma patient. Generally, Pancharkarma method and Rasayana therapies are combined together for effective and quick healing.

Pancharkarma Method Of Treatment For Asthma

This treatment procedure is subdivided into three phases namely pre, main and post purification phase and includes therapies such as fermented liquid massage, oil massages, medicinal enemas and herbal purification methods. This phase of treatment is mainly carried out to relax the mind and body along with toxin elimination.

Pre purification method includes Dhoomapanam, Abhyangam, Thakradhara, Swedanam and Vasthi. Vamanam and Virechanam come under the main purification phase. Depending upon the intensity and type of the asthma, the doctor may advise the patient to undergo one or two or all three therapies. People having history of severe asthma attacks are generally advised to undergo all the therapies for effective result. Strict dietary restrictions are also prescribed to the patients during the purification phases for quicker results.

Rasayana Therapies

These body nourishing therapies are normally prescribed only after completion of Panchakarma treatments and are great for body and mind rejuvenation. Rasayana therapies includes diet regulation and oral medicines

Oral Medicines

Kashayams, choornams, lehyams containing amalaki, liquorice root, tulasi, black pepper, clove, turmeric are prescribed to asthmatics for long term asthma management.

Diet Regulation for Asthma Patients

Diet regulation for asthma patients is suggested during the course of treatment and also afterwards. They are specially designed for better digestion, digestive fire control and overall well-being, so that the body organs can get proper nutrition and rest. Patients suffering from severe asthma attacks can benefit a lot from Ayurveda diet. Deep breathing, yoga and pranayamas are also suggested to the patients along with the diet to overcome the respiratory problems.

Ayurveda treatment along with little changes in the lifestyle such less exposure to dust, pollutants and extreme temperatures can prove very beneficial for asthma patients.
