It is assumed that this plant originated in the Assam region of India and spread all across the South East Asia. This plant has been part of China, Taiwan, Japan and middle east majorly.

Many popular perfume designers make use of this fragrance in their special perfume range. Many people make use of it in wine for adding aroma to it. It is a very precious oil. The oil is composed of a special ingredient called Valerian which relieves the stress by calming the nervous systems and also helps in the cases of insomnia. Underwood has also been used for romantic purposes in certain cultures. The distillation process is used for extracting oil from the wood.
