Everything About The Flowering Tea
Total Articles: 7959
A flowering tea goes by various names. It is also called a blooming tea, display tea, hand-sewn tea, hand-tied tea or a flower-craft tea. No matter what you call them, these teas are enjoyed for their appearance as well as for their flavor. Typically, they are made of tea leaves and tea buds. These leaves or buds are sewn into place by hand and may be oval, spherical, mushroom, heart, cone, rosette or disc-shaped. In some cases, these tea leaves may be pressed flat before they are eventually sewn together into a flowering tea of multi-dimensional shapes.
Sometimes you will find a residual imprint or texture on them. This comes from the cloth or paper that has been used to press them or flatten them. Many current-day flowering teas have either a single large flower or multiple smaller ones tucked inside the bundle of tea leaves. However, some flowering teas do not contain flowers at all. The ‘flowering’ could also refer to the unfurling of the leaves while the tea is being infused. The common flowers that are used in flowering teas are carnation, chrysanthemum, rose, lily, hibiscus, amaranth, globe, jasmine and marigold.
All these flowers that are used in flowering tea are edible or food-safe ones. You can buy these teas from a specialty tea shop or even from one where wholesale tea is sold. When you buy from a wholesale tea shop, you end up paying less than what you would normally pay at a specialty tea store. You are also able to order these fascinating teas online and the variety is truly mind-boggling. Most people buy flowering teas for the experience of watching them unfold delicately. Once these teas are infused, they will open up into a totally different shape.
They could open up into larger spheres, a garland, a basket or any other shape. These teas generally open up very gradually. However, some teas that are sewn into a garland shape may open up very fast in the teapot. These are very dramatic and showy teas in comparison to the traditional counterparts. Numerous online videos are made of these striking teas, showcasing the blooming process. Many flowering teas have a very neutral flavor. Some are vegetal in taste whole others may have a more flowery or even fruity flavor.
The shaping process decides how the flavour of the tea will develop as it steeps. Some teas are flavoured with jasmine flowers and this compensates for the lighter flavour of the tea leaves. However, most of the flowers in the blooming or flowering teas are very lightly aromatic. These teas are very popular in western countries like the U.K and the U.S though most of these teas come from China. Flowers may be combined with green, black or white teas and this is what lends them their distinctive flavor. Tying these teas is a huge industry in China and a large quantity of these teas are exported across the globe.
