Total Articles: 8
Many people are of the opinion that psychologist and psychiatrist are one and the same. But, some of them understand that there are some differences between these two professionals. But, they wish to understand about the actual difference. Here is a brief discussion in this respect:
Education: Both these professionals start with a Bachelor's degree and the difference is the education they are getting after this level. Psychiatrists in Petaluma and even in other areas, generally attend a four-year of medical schooling for receiving the MD degree. Like medical doctors going for specials like surgeon, pediatrician, gynecologist, etc... these people go for a higher education with specialization in psychiatry. This education will provide them with the ability to give appropriate therapy to patients and they are specialized in treating health problems like schizophrenia, anxiety, depression and ADHD. Even some of them are specialized in treating people falling under specific age group like children, aged people, those with substance abuse, etc...
On the other hand, psychologist go for a higher education in Psy. D or Ph. D, which are doctoral degrees in the field of psychology. They go for this education after receiving a Master's degree in psychology. As they are not medical doctors, they cannot prescribe any medicines. When it comes to the profession, these people generally do counseling work for couples, family therapy, individual therapy, etc... This is possible because they have learnt about human mentality.
Therapy: When an individual in Ukiah, is facing some mental problems and if his family members feel that he needs some counseling, they can take him to a psychologist. But, if the psychologist feels that some medicines are to be given to him and behavioral therapy alone cannot help, they will be suggesting that he should seek the help of a psychiatrist in Ukiah. When talking about therapies, psychologist just given therapies, while psychiatrist alone can prescribe medications along with therapy so that quick relief can be provided to the patients.
Conditions: When an individual is just at the initial stages of mental health issues, even though, he can get the help of a psychologist, the best thing he can do if he is in Ukiah and nearby areas is to seek the help of psychiatrists in Ukiah. These professionals will just talk to the patient and will decide whether he needs some medicines or therapy alone can provide him the required relief.
A psychiatrist in Petaluma is the best solution providers as compared to psychologist to judge the level of problem faced by an individual.
