So, it’s pouring and there is nothing you can do but stay home. Television is your only saving grace and obviously you are craving so sweet and salty crackling munchies with that piping hot chai. Well, you are not alone! And no, don’t worry! If you are out of those munchies biscuits, here’s what you can look for and the easiest way to get them without stepping out.

Khari Bicuits: Khari biscuits are nothing but slightly salted (khari) puff pastries. These are generally consumed as breakfast side with tea but can be a great accompaniment for your evening chai, too. The best quality ones are flaky, crunchy with some spices to add that dash of flavor. Most common flavors include Maska (butter) Khari, Jeera (Cumin Seeds) Khari and Masala Khari. I have seen some stores in Mumbai selling healthy versions of the regular khari like Multi-grain khari and whole wheat Khari.

Butter Biscuits (Cookies): Butter is also a common breakfast cookie. It is crispy with slightly flavored with spices like jeera (cumin) or salted etc. These are great accompaniments or dippers with tea because of their crisp and slightly salted nature.

Toast ...
... Biscuits: Toast biscuits are small slices of breads roasted until they are crisp and perfect golden. These are great to eat as crackers and biscuits and are considerably a healthier option. Again, this also includes many flavors and also has a sweeter version, other includes, salted toasts, masala toasts, dry fruit toasts and even whole wheat ones.

Nan Khatai: Nan Khatai is an Indianised eggless sweet cookie that is great breakfast accompaniment and also great for an evening of staying indoors with a hot cuppa. These can be flavored with various dry fruits to make them fancier and can be easily made at home.

Now, since the above options are already making you run to look for the best places that serve it. Let me give you a low down on places you can order easily. If you are in Mumbai, many shops let you order online and deliver anywhere in Mumbai. So, you do not have to step out when it’s raining. Other areas in Mumbai include cake shops in Lokhandwala Market in Andheri. You may miss these shops as they are famous as cake shops and do not advertise these much, but the quality is great.

Time to go shopping for chai-dippers!
