A subject which many people find quite interesting is bicycle fitting. But bicycle fitting is quite easy.
Bicycle fitting involves compromises between comfort and performance. A comfortable position does not allow the rider to put more energy. The body's position determines the way the rider rides. A track sprinter is not bothered with the way he sits. He may be seated for only 5-10 seconds during the race.
The hands, the seat and the feat remain in contact with the bicycle.

a) CRANK LENGTH: The diameter of the circle that the paddles move in is determined by the crank length. If the diameter is larger, then more flexion of thigh muscles and knees is needed to turn the cranks. The thigh muscles do not exert the same force throughout the range of the motion. To find the optimum length is expensive and time consuming but it is the right way to find the correct length of the rider. A crank with various paddle threads would be easy to test.
b)SADDLE TILT:A saddle is needed for bicycle fitting. But many of the bicycles have saddles which are designed by those people who have never ridden a bicycle. Many people turn the angle of the nose. This makes it very uncomfortable for the riders. The rider tends to slide forward. Women's saddles are wider than the men's saddle.
c) SADDLE HEIGHT: After the crank length has been determined the saddle should be placed at a normal height. Many riders pedals with their toes down while some other riders keep their feet in level position while paddling.
d) THE FORE-APT POSITION OF THE SADDLE: It is the most important part of bicycle fitting. If this is right then all the other things become easy. The way the rider intends to ride his bike determines this position. Usually the saddle is behind the crank center. A frame tube runs from the saddle to the crank center.
e)PADDLE AXLE: bicycle fitting specify that most of the part of the knee should be over paddle axle.
f)HANDLE BAR POSITION: The position of the handle bar is determined by what the rider is doing on the bike. If the bar is placed further forward the rider will have more power in standing .The racers usually prefer the handle bar position 2-3 inches below the saddle height.
g) Handlebar width (road & ATB) and drop for road style bars: There are many brands of drop style bars and it depends upon the rider's choice to of how much lower the drop section of the bar is from the top. The deep drop bars are needed only by the track sprinters.
h)SADDLE HEIGHT: when you are comfortable with the bicycle you must go back to the start and check the saddle height. The rider should be able to paddle without straightening his knees and without rocking one's hip against the saddle.
i)stems and seat posts are of various configuration. That is one can choose from various frame sizes and still have the good fit.
