We all love the festive period, with lots of overeating and enjoying food with our families and friends. But how much alcohol are you consuming in the Christmassy treats you are eating? An investigation has revealed that Christmas pudding from supermarkets like ASDA and marks and Spencer’s are full of significant amounts of spirits like whisky and brandy, as well as lesser used spirits like sherry and even cider. And with the modern day habit of simply microwaving your pudding instead of boiling or streaming being more prevalent, less alcohol evaporates, leaving the alcohol content much higher.

A single portion of the Christmas favorite could leave drivers over the limit even if they haven't drank any alcohol with their Christmas meal.

Marks and Spencer's came in at the highest alcohol content, with ruby port, stout, cognac and brandy soaked cherries pushing the alcohol content to a massive twenty one percent.

It seems that a one hundred gram portion of the pudding contains the same amount of alcohol as a single measure of spirit in a pub, which is enough to send a driver over the limit, even before the ...
... brandy butter and flaming brandy are added. A whole Christmas pudding, it is revealed, could contain a third of a bottle of brandy.

If you are dead set on Christmas pudding, the best way to reduce the alcohol content for those driving is to boil it for a couple of hours as opposed to microwaving for a few minutes.
