Seed Banks With Non Gmo Seeds Will Be The Way Of The Future
Total Articles: 161
Taking natural and organically produced food is very good for health. For a long time, health experts have been saying this. But many people have not paid enough attention to this. Now however, people and especially farmers are protesting against the indiscriminate use of genetic modification of food items. On the other hand, global warming and climate change have also come to the forefront as one of the major issues globally. This means that that two are not separate issues now. That is because, genetically modified crops require a lot of water and they are fertilizer and pesticide guzzlers as well.
Thus, when one thinks of storing seeds for the future as part of the Heirloom seeds plan, the preference should always be with organically produced seeds. This would mean that the seeds can be sowed and reaped to grow the corresponding food without much costly inputs at all. This is something that every person should look forward to. People need to think about the future as well instead of just the present. This will help ensure that the future generations are protected and insulated from impending catastrophes as well.
The concept of prepper supplies is indeed good. This is because, if indeed some disaster is awaiting us in the near or even remote future, if the generation then has some storage of seeds, they will be able to survive at least on the bare essentials without which one cannot live. One of these basic and most urgent supplies is definitely food. Growing food without too many resources is certainly the same as saying growing food organically. This is because organic farming does not require such a massive level of application of fertilizers and insect killers. They also retain the fertility of the soil, which again is a problem with GMO food.
Therefore, it has become customary these days to ask for labeled products only. Non-gmo seed is the way to go, and this has indeed become the practice and preference among many of the conscious food growers. They know how to keep their next generations safe. Now, such a Seed bank may be created for private purposes or for the entire community. But the idea is the same in each case.
One may think that for the proper application of the Heirloom seeds plan, the help and support of the government will be required. But that too is a mistaken notion. There will be no help required externally. Instead, this process stresses on self reliance. This is because, after a disaster strikes, no one knows what the situation will be. Perhaps a family that manages to weather such a storm will have to make do without making any human contact for many miles from their home. Keeping these contingencies in mind, it is best to be prepared for fending for oneself.
Ecologically speaking as well, it is a far better option to go for organic and non GMO foods. They also do not adversely affect the health. Independent researchers have clearly shown that not only do non GMO foods do not harm, but they may be more nutritious.
