Regardless of the base you choose, adding ice can give your healthy smoothie a refreshing cold crunch.

According to nutritionists the average adult should have between 5-10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Fruits and vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, and other nutrients. Without the proper balance of nutrition your body can't function properly. Also, diets rich in fruit and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.

Not only can healthy smoothies help you meet your nutritional quotas they can also help to curb your appetite and lose weight. Most fruits and vegetables are low in fat and calories. Plus, fruits and vegetables are high in fiber. Fiber has a two fold effect on your body: 1) It helps to keep your digestive tract running regularly; and 2) It makes your stomach feel fuller longer. Eating more healthy fruits and vegetables actually helps you eat less. A healthy smoothie gives you the advantages of eating foods with fewer calories and more fiber while still delivering the taste.
Whether you use a healthy smoothie as a supplement to your meal or a meal replacement, you can pack it full of the nutrition your body needs. Use a strategic base for the smoothie, add some ice, and then load up your favorite fruits and vegetables. You can create a healthy smoothie customized to fit your nutritional balance.
