Types of knives

Before buying a kitchen knife, decide what kind you will need and for what purpose. If you need to cut meat then you will need a cleaver knife. A small version of cleaver is used to chop herbs. If you need to cut, peel and trim vegetables and fruits a normal paring knife will do. For cutting bread slices and tomatoes you will need a serrated one. Chef Knives are used for mincing, dicing, chopping and cutting. A carving knife is used to carve out thin slices of roast meat and poultry. Depending on your need you must buy. It is generally paring and Chef Knives that are most commonly used in every kitchen.

Checking for the quality

Hold it to see if it is comfortable enough. Check for the quality of the steel and also how much of the steel is in the knife. There should be no welding and joints in it. It should be sturdy. Good quality knives have a good balance. The weight should be equal on the blade as well as the handle. Light weight ones are good speed chopping and heavy weight ones are good for cutting hard and thick ingredients. Lastly check and see that the handle is made of good quality. Keep them in good condition and well sharpened.

Cast Iron Casseroles which are enameled deliver a steady and even heat. They are ideal even to use in ovens. Being thick all around and having tight fitting lids these Cast Iron Casseroles are ideal for cooking as the moisture is locked inside which adds to taste and no loss of nutrients.
