Storing Seeds In Seed Banks With Seed Kits May Be A Life Saving Decision

Entire humanity is facing a major crisis today, which is why the Seed kit is so mighty important. Even as we speak of improving technology, we can see people losing their lives because of natural disasters. The number of people losing their houses, livelihoods and lives due to extreme climates in the past several decades have been really high. It is no coincidence of course. There have been warnings by climate scientists and environmental activists. But we as a species tend to take things for granted a bit too much. Many or most of us had thought that everything will be okay and we too smart to fail. But every time a natural catastrophe occurs and it causes widespread devastation, we tend to lose faith in this age old belief and overconfidence in our abilities as a species. But we are also affected with chronic shortage of memory. Hence, we will quickly forget the massive tsunami that rocked the Indian Ocean a while back, causing devastation in Thailand, Sri Lanka and elsewhere. We will also forget the Katrina hurricane. But many don’t forget as well. They also try to prepare themselves for the next big disaster. They want to not only safeguard their own futures, but that of future generations as well. This is where the importance of Heirloom seed banks becomes apparent.

If in a massive disaster seeds are destroyed and mankind loses much of everything else, at least food can be produced thanks to the seed bank. This concept has had a massive impact on those who are caught in between simply engaging in charity and trying to make a difference in the world. What is absolutely certain is that food is fundamental to the survival of a species. That is why it makes good sense to preserve some food in the form of seeds which can be planted and food plants can be grown later. This will be relevant in a society where not only seeds are scarce but even resources are scarce. This point needs some elaboration.

Modern farming methods often require the excessive use of water guzzling insecticides and pesticides. This means that huge amounts of resources are needed just for a small output of crops. This naturally leads to an enormous consumption which is not sustainable during times of crisis. Thus it is a clever ploy to keep a Heirloom seed storage that requires organic farming. These are good quality seeds instead of the hybrid variety. Organic farming, though requires some special skills, are not so much water guzzling in their practice.

The websites of the companies that provide the services of seed banks can be found online. There are many such sites, but it is better to read up on some customer feedback before committing oneself to any particular one. On the other hand, you should also enquire in details about the kind of technical help the company will provide with regard to storage of the seeds. The premises of the bank where the Heirloom seeds are kept must be conducive to storing the seeds without getting rotten or damaged for many years.
