Every manager has his or her own style when it comes to handling people and directing them towards a common objective for a project. If there are different styles, how will you know which to follow? What will be most suitable for you and your team?

Another widely-used style is the Affiliative style. With this, people come first. This style focuses more on the satisfaction and happiness of the people before considering the goals and objectives of a task. Basically, this style involves counseling and keeps conflict among employees at bay.

The Coercive or Directive style requires strict compliance and practises overall control. Discipline is implemented and threats are given to those who do not readily comply to the rules set by the manager.

The Pacesetting form of management is focused on achieving high standards and self-direction of the people. The manager who uses this style is usually engaged in multi-tasking and expects the team to easily fall in step.
